User Registration:

Patrons interested in accessing the platform have to register for an account within the Nevada LMS system. They provide necessary information such as name, email address, organization details, position and any other required details.

User Authentication:

Upon registration, the administrators of the institution receive the request. The administrators have to approve whether they wish to grant access to the new user where they can activate a new user and set up their profile and access type. From there the user gets notified via a system generated email that access has been granted and users can proceed to create a secure password for their account and login to the system.

  1. User Login: Users access the Nevada LMS system through the designated login page. They enter their registered email address and password.
  2. Authentication Process: The User Login Manager verifies the entered credentials against the database of registered users. If the email address and password match an existing user record, authentication is successful. If authentication fails (e.g., incorrect password), users receive an email notification and are prompted to retry or reset their password.
  3. Session Management: The system manages user sessions, tracking active sessions and automatically logging users out after a period of inactivity to ensure security. Users may also have the option to manually log out of their sessions.
  4. Password Management: Users have the ability to reset their passwords if forgotten or compromised.
  5. The system may implement password strength requirements and periodic password expiration to enhance security.
  6. Secure Communication: All communication between the user's device and the Nevada LMS system is encrypted using secure protocols (e.g., HTTPS) to protect sensitive information during transmission.
  7. Logging and Monitoring: The system logs authentication attempts, including successful and failed attempts, to monitor for suspicious activity and potential security breaches. Administrators have access to audit logs and monitoring tools to ensure the security of user authentication processes.

By following this process, Nevada LMS can provide a safe and secure patron authentication experience, safeguarding user accounts and library resources from unauthorized access.
